Mahesh V. Hosur
Head and Professor
Dr. Mahesh Hosur currently serves as the Director of NSF funded Alabama EPSCoR RII on Enhancing Alabama’s Research Capacity in Nano/Bio Science and Sensors. The state’s research institutions participating in EPSCoR include Alabama A&M University, Auburn University, Tuskegee University, The University of Alabama, University of Alabama at Birmingham, University of Alabama at Huntsville, and The University of South Alabama. Prior to his selection to lead this effort in July 2011, he was serving as the Director of the Alabama Center for Nanostructured Materials, a six University consortium under the same program from 2005-2010. Dr. Hosur is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Tuskegee University where he has been a faculty member since 1997. Prior to joining Tuskegee, Dr. Hosur worked as a Scientist in Aeronautical Development Agency in India. He has Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and Master’s and PhD degrees in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering respectively.
His research areas of interests are advanced materials for structural applications including fiber reinforced composites, sandwich structures, nanocomposites and biodegradable polymeric natural fiber composites. His expertise is in processing and characterization of these composites including static and dynamic performance, durability and damage tolerance. He has been actively involved in outreach activities under this program as well as other NSF funded programs at Tuskegee University.
